Established in 1974 Literacy Network is a not-for-profit organization committed to providing essential literacy services to adults and families in Dane County so they may achieve their employment education and family goals. Literacy Network provides learner-centered literacy services to more than 1200 Dane County adults annually through instructor-led classes and one-to-one volunteer tutoring for reading writing English speaking skills. Literacy Network has been a United Way Agency since 1979.
Because of Literacy Network's contributions to the community Dane County has a better prepared workforce and a diverse involved population. Literacy Network helps learners succeed in the workplace better understand health issues and supply supportive environments for the education of children. The Student Services Director is a full-time employee who provides support for all students from first contact through the duration of their studies at Literacy Network. The Student Services Director serves as the primary contact person for all students at Literacy Network. In addition to individual support the Student Services Director will oversee the Community Literacy program hiring and training interns who coordinate the program and may also teach group classes as needed. The student services director's primary responsibilities are:
•Recruit grown-up learners in Dane County
•Track and assist learners from first contact through matching process
- Provide initial interview with new learners interested in tutoring
- Assess learners requesting a personal tutor
- Manage waitlist for learners interested in a personal tutor
- Match tutors and learners jointly with the Tutoring Director
- Support and follow-up with learners behind they are matched
- Manage the Community Literacy tutoring program
- Work with interns to write personalized goal-ba
- Work with partner organizations to establish sites for program and assert good relationships with Community Literacy partners
- Work with other staff members to recruit students and tutors for community literacy program
- Train new tutors and provide on-going tutor support
- Hire and train interns at the start of every semester
- Coordinate childcare with program partner
- Manage attendance and progress for all students in community literacy program and ensure data is entered into tracking program
- Track appraise and order program materials
The ideal candidate must demonstrate a passion and a commitment to community education and to helping build connections between learners and the Dane County community.
The following skills and attributes are desired:
•Commitment to Literacy Network's mission.
•Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills; excellent oral communication and presentation skills. Spanish language fluency strongly preferred.
•Ability to think strategically and critically.
•Knowledge skills and experience in adult education programs including teaching and assessment strategies for adult basic education and English language learners.
•Leadership experience preferably in a nonprofit organization.
•Excellent written communication research and organizational skills.
•Interest enthusiasm and affinity for working with people and improving their lives.
•The successful applicant will job well in multicultural teams and with diverse constituencies. S/he will be self-motivated work well under pressure and be capable to handle several projects at one time. S/he will have good judgment and ideally a sense of humor.
•An advanced degree or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
The incumbent will spend50% of his/her time working on coordination of student services intakes assessments and evaluation; 50% working on management of the community literacy tutoring program providing training to interns and tutors managing interns' work and tracking program data for reporting purposes.

Flexibility Required.
